Snowy Days, Bread Baking, Target Shopping, & The Little Things

It’s officially spring, and I think we’ve gotten more snow this past week than we did all winter. I’m definitely over it. Although I like the extra time inside for baking new recipes, I really thought that maybe this year would be different, and spring would’ve stayed when we had those warmer days. I was definitely wrong. My toddler is over it just as much as I am. We try to go outside as much as possible and he literally wants to stay out and play all day long, but he gets so cold that we have to go in.

And with that… I want to leave Wisconsion. The warm months are so short. All I’ve been thinking about is spending the days outside ALL DAY LONG with my toddler and baby. (Plus, the hubby when he’s home from work). I want to garden and go to the lake. I want to go for long runs in the heat. Long, long trail runs with hills and dirt. I want to do all the fun toddler things, go on picnics with the family, and cook on the grill. The snow is pretty but why couldn’t we have gotten this much snow during Christmas time? I didn’t measure the snow but I’m sure we got a good 8 inches in the last week. Maybe even more.

With it still being so cold and snowing so much I’ve been doing a lot of baking. Today me and my toddler made a batch of my favorite brownies ever! The recipe will be up this week so stay tuned!

My toddler has been sick these past couple days. It seems to be just a little cold, but I feel so bad for him. Anytime he gets sick I wish I could be sick for him. Thankfully he’s starting to finally feel better and getting back to himself. He’s been eating so much fruit lately. Fruit and oatmeal. His food fixation this week. Or is that every week. LOL.

Baby boy is growing so fast! He just turned 5 months and I’m crying. Where did the time go? He’s such a happy boy and is so much different than my toddler was at this age. I love that they can have their own little personalities at such a young age. I’m honestly so excited to start baby boy on purees and to start baby lead weaning. My toddler started purees right about at 6 months and was very interested. I’m breastfeeding him and let me tell ya… He’s a loves mommy’s milk so I’m curious to see how much baby boy will like purees once we start.

Last Tuesday before the snow hit, we were able to spend a few warmish days outside. My toddler’s new favorite thing to do outside is blowing bubbles, riding his scooter, and driving around in his car. He’s finally getting the hang of pushing the gas and steering the wheel all by himself. I definitely don’t have to help him nearly as much as I did last year when we first bought the car.

Wednesday night into Thursday morning is when the snow first started. The forecast said to expect 8-11 inches of snow! It ended up changing and we only really got a few inches, but it was still enough, and I thought for sure this was the last snow fall of the season. Boy, was I wrong.

Thursday before my toddlers nap, we made another loaf of walnut banana bread with the bananas that were super over ripe on the counter. It made the sweetest banana bread ever! I’m telling you I don’t think I could ever get sick of banana bread. It’s so GOOD!

Me and my hubby decided that today would be the best day to go summer clothes shopping at target for our toddler. So, once he was home from work, we got the boys ready to go and left for a family target trip. Let me tell you shopping alone with two kiddos can be so hard! I love when Devin is able to come along for shopping trips. It’s such a big help.

Of course, our target has a Starbucks inside, so we had to stop and get a drink for mom and dad and our toddler a cake pop. Soon enough we’ll be getting both boys a cake pop. Both me and Devin got the strawberry acai made with lemonade and our toddler picked out the target dog cake pop. He loved it! I’m normally one to just get coffee from Starbucks but today the sound of a Starbucks coffee just didn’t sound good.

We were able to get most of the summer clothes for our toddler besides new shoes and sandals. Target also didn’t have any toddler boy tank tops (I was so surprised), so we’ll have to make a trip another time to find some tank tops for him. Tank tops are his favorite, so we definitely need to make sure we have some in his closet. Where are some good clothing stores that sell toddler boy tanks tops?

Friday was still a pretty chilly day, but we can’t stay inside. Both me and my toddler are in much better moods when we get outside even if it’s just for a short walk. We did lots of bubbles and did all the walking around until it was too cold for baby boy, and we had to go inside. Honestly it was too cold for me and my toddler too. We just want warm weather already.

Saturday, I made a loaf of sourdough bread and I’m finally happy with the way it turned out! I’m testing this recipe out so much before I share it. I want it to be the best! The recipe will be coming soon. I’m hoping within a month I can have everything perfect so that I can share the recipe! I’m looking forward to sharing a bunch of sourdough recipes. I’ll also be sharing a very in detail post on how to make your own sourdough starter. I had such a hard time doing it myself so I thought it would be helpful if I go into a lot of detail for anyone that had or is having a hard time with sourdough starter. So, be ready for all things sourdough coming very soon!

Sunday afternoon is when the snow started back up. It snowed until Monday morning (today). I’m not even joking when I say it snowed probably a good 6 inches by us. Although I’m not happy about all the snow I still try to make the best of it and with that I took my toddler sledding this morning before his nap. This literally made his morning especially with him still not feeling 100%. He loved watching the snowplows plow the snow from our apartment complex parking lot and had a blast being pulled around and going sledding down the small hills by us. It’s these small little things that make him so happy and I’m all for it. I’m so happy I didn’t let my grumpy self stay inside and pout about the snow.

I’m hopeful that the snow is done, and the weather will start to warm up. Once this warm weather comes, I’m never going to want to come back inside. LOL. Neither will my toddler. He’s 100% an outside boy and I’m so happy about it.

With springtime here and summer approaching it’s made me think of some ideas for the blog. I’m wanting to add some extra fun on here. I’m going to be doing so much more writing and incorporating more of my daily life into the blog.

I’ll still be sharing just as many recipes maybe more plus I’m wanting to have another weekly blog post all about my day to day life as a mom. Toddler summer activities, baby led weening tips and ideas, mom & dad days, and so much more! I have so many ideas that I’m so excited to share. This will be a fun way for you to get to know me on a deeper level and give you fun ideas to do this summer with your little ones and yourself. I love sharing my life and all the recipes so I’m super excited about this. I would love to hear what things you’d like to see on my blog so make sure to comment some ideas! I’m really hoping to get this going starting in April and I can’t wait!

the little things

Hopefully this is the last snow picture you see from me until at least December. Last year our first snowfall was in October and I’m hoping Wisconsion can wait another couple months. LOL. Or maybe we won’t be in Wisconsion in December. LOL. I’m totally kidding. Mostly!

I also did a little thing this past week… I dyed my hair. It’s close to a strawberry blonde. Honestly, I wasn’t too sure about it when I first saw it but I’m thinking I kind of like it. Maybe even something I’d want to do more often.

I hope you had a great weekend and thanks for stopping by to read this week’s blog post!
